What is the RECup made out of?The RECup is made of 100% medical-grade silicone. So you don't have to worry about harsh chemicals or synthetic fibers getting into your body.
-
Which size should I order?Level 1: We recommend a "small" for those who have a normal to heavy flow but have not given birth vaginally. If you have given birth vaginally, we recommend you size up to the large. Level 2: We recommend a "large" for those who have given birth vaginally or been diagnosed with a condition called Menorrhagia. Switching to a menstrual cup is a big step. That's why we've created the RECup cup quiz here
-
Is the RECup FDA registered?Yes the RECup is molded and manufactured in FDA registered facilities. See here for the Registered Owner Operator Number: 10061640 Registered Medical Device Number: D3611574.
-
How long can I wear it?You can wear the RECup for up to 12 hours. We recognize that menstrual flow can range widely therefore you may need to empty your cup more frequently and that is perfectly fine.
-
Is the RECup reusable?Yes it is. Vaginal pH and acidity levels can vary from person to person, and can significantly wear on your cup. With that said we recommend evaluating your RECup every year to determine if you need a replacement.
-
Is there a risk for TSS Toxic Shock Syndrome when using a RECup?The RECup is made of 100% medical-grade silicone, which means there's little risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. If you’ve previously been diagnosed with TSS, make sure to consult your health care provider before switching to a menstrual cup. Always wash your cup after use.
-
Can I use the cup if I have a tilted/retroverted uterus?Yes, the cup sits low in your vaginal canal below your cervix which is the opening to your uterus.
-
Can I use the cup if I have an IUD?Yes, while you can use the cup with an IUD, we always recommend consulting with your health care provider first before trying out a new form of menstrual care. Always remember to break the seal of your cup before attempting to remove it.
-
Can I use the cup if I have bladder or pelvic floor prolapse? We do not recommend a menstrual cup if you have been diagnosed with bladder or pelvic floor prolapse as the suction created by the cup may aggravate your pre-existing diagnosis. If you'd still like to give it a try, we highly recommend you consult your physician before making the switch.
-
How do I use it?The RECup can be inserted in a number of ways. Try one of two recommended folds. The c-fold and punch-down fold explained in detail on our "How-To" page. There are a number of ways to fold your cup so take some time to explore what works best for you.
-
Should I sterilize my cup before inital use? While each RECup comes individually wrapped and sealed directly from the manufacturer, we recommend sanitizing your cup before initial use by placing in boiling water for 5 minutes.
-
How do I clean my RECup?You can clean the RECup with mild soap and warm water during your period. We recommend unscented or pH balanced soap. We do not recommend using anti-bacterial soap. While this is great for washing your hands, it can strip your vagina of its healthy bacteria and natural flora and cause a yeast infection. Before use and between cycles, you can sanitize your cup by placing it in boiling water for 5 minutes. Do not use vinegar, tea tree oil, scented soap, castile or peppermint soap, oil based soap, rubbing alcohol, anti bacterial soap, hand sanitizer, dish soap, hydrogen peroxide or harsh chemicals to clean your cup as this can damage the silicone and cause irritation and discomfort.
-
DisclaimerIf you have any questions about whether a menstrual cup is right for you, please discuss your specific health history/anatomy with your health care provider before making the switch.
-
